Grand Texan Style BBQ

The extremely popular garden restaurant the Captain’s Corner Steak House located in the grounds of the Residence Apartment Suites on Thappraya Road will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year.

Every evening from 6.00pm this delightful open restaurant, owned by Danish restaurateur Mr. Ib Ottesen, offers an excellent deal with an “all you can eat” Texas Style BBQ selection, including good quality meats, seafood, salads and Thai food all for 350 baht (plus VAT) for adults and half price (175 baht) for children under the age of 12 years. During “low season” there are about 20 tables around the BBQ kitchen area which in “high season” is increased to up to 100 tables located around the nearby swimming pool of the Residence Suites; such is the popularity of the Captain’s Corner Steak House.

The evening’s experience is increased with a live piano show, playing well known songs including romantically themed music to enhance the magical atmosphere in the peaceful setting of the fan cooled Captain’s Corner restaurant- except Wednesday, the day we visited the Captain’s Corner. Because on Wednesdays, at 9.00pm, the theme is changed to the extremely popular “Elvis Live Show” performed by the immensely talented singer, Thai (Elvis) Balad, who is probably one of the best Elvis impersonators around. Due to the popularity of this evening the Captain’s Corner has now expanded the “Elvis Live Show” to also include Saturdays at 9.00pm. The performer of this evening is the evenly talented Arthur (Elvis). So judge for yourselves which one you like the most.
So to the food! For the most part it is a help yourself affair. You just go back for as much as you want from the wonderful selection of salads, sushi, mussels and squid together with a good assortment of help yourself Thai dishes. There is also a meat, fish and seafood section where one picks one’s own steaks, sausages, fish steaks, seafood to take to the nearby kitchen area to be cooked to perfection by one of the expert chefs. There is no need to pile your plate with food, as one can enjoy as much or as little of everything to satisfy even the hungriest of appetites.
The food did not take long to appear at our table as there are several chefs on the go, busily cooking orders at the nearby grill. After this feast we tried freshly made crepes suzette, which was a light and fluffy pancake smothered and flambéed in a brandy and orange sauce and a wonderful tasting Irish Coffee (at 165 baht) to finish. The result was a very satisfying and delicious meal.
The Captain’s Corner Steakhouse on the Pattaya end of Thappraya Road is extremely good value and well worth a visit, especially on the popular “Elvis Nights”. They also provide an air-conditioned min-bus pick up service from hotels in the Pattaya and Jomtien area.
